The incident occurred on Thursday, March 14, 2024, aboard a northbound A train, capturing the attention of New Yorkers and making headlines across the city.

According to reports from WABC Eyewitness News, the altercation began when the 36-year-old, who was armed and already aboard the train, initiated a confrontation with a 32-year-old man who had just boarded at the Nostrand Avenue Station. Witnesses described the older man’s behavior as aggressive and provocative, leading to a tense exchange of words between the two.

As the confrontation escalated, the 36-year-old allegedly attempted to approach the younger man with the firearm in hand. In the midst of the chaos, the 32-year-old managed to gain control of the weapon and discharged it, striking the aggressor in the head. The harrowing moment and the ensuing panic among passengers were caught on video, with one woman audibly pleading to be let out of the train car.

The train came to a stop at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station, where responding officers rushed to the scene upon hearing the gunshots. The critically injured man was promptly taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital for treatment.

Authorities have recovered a gun from the scene and have taken the 32-year-old into custody for questioning. As of now, no charges have been filed, but an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
